Memorial Day, just one week away, is the unofficial start of summer (at least here in the US). While all the seasons have unique reading vibes, summer tends to be the reading season people get most excited about. Obviously, those stereotypical “beach reads” are big business, but I know just as many people who like something big and audacious during the hottest months of the year.
For me, given our family’s current dynamic, summer reading tends to fall into two buckets: mystery/crime novels and narrative non-fiction. For the next few months, with young kids home from school (ages 3, 6, and soon-to-be-9) and lots of shuttling between activities, my attention will be as fractured as it ever gets. For reading, then, I need something that will read smoothly and that’s easy to pick up and put down in short spurts. This year, that means Louise Penny, as well as space stuff and basketball stuff (my current favorite niche non-fic subjects).
What about you? What’s high on your summer TBR?
Carrie Soto Is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid is my current summer read, and perhaps pick another of her books up. Also, more of the Slow Horses series and either a Stephen King or Blake Crouch!
I’ve recently discovered the “Lincoln Lawyer” series by Michael Connelly. (No I never saw the movie but I did watch the first season of the TV show.) The show led me to the books: I wanted to discover what had or hadn’t been changed.
