This week our family is en route to the Monterey area of California for an end-of-summer vacay before school starts next week. One of things I’m excited to do there is spend a couple hours at the Steinbeck Center in Salinas. It got me thinking about other literary destinations and places to visit. A few that stand out in my memory:
The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, CO
James Joyce Centre in Dublin + the library at Trinity (which inspired J.K. Rowling’s Hogwarts library)
I’d love to hear about all the literary-themed places you love!
I visited 221B Baker Street in high school on a trip to London and loved it. It is set up as part ACD museum, part Holmes’s flat. My dad bought me a deerstalker cap I sadly haven’t seen in years.
Just visited the newly renovated Folger Library in DC - to see 89 copies of Shakepeare’s first folio (!!) and other rare literary treasures & first editions!
