Polar Vortex Discussion Thread: What did you read over the chilly weekend?
Most of the country was immersed in a truly awful polar vortex over the long holiday weekend. For our household, it meant a lot of crafts, warm drinks, and, of course, reading.
On a bit of a whim last week, I (re)started George Martin’s A Song of Fire and Ice book series. I actually read the first book — A Game of Thrones — about eight years ago, but didn’t go further than that and haven’t seen the TV series. Over the course of the last five days or so, I’ve blasted through about half of A Game of Throne’s 800 pages and found myself entranced by his world-building once again. My plan this time is to read through the whole series and then start in on the show as well.
Anyways — what did ya’ll read over the gross weekend? Anything you really loved? Hopefully not anything you hated? 😆 Let us know in the comments!
Reading Poverty, by America by Matthew Desmond. It’s not very uplifting--America the ugly--but Desmond does a great job explaining our problems and how we can fix them! Everyone should read this book.
I sat by the fire w a cup of hot chocolate and read Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus. So so good! And of course I also read a few chapters of Dune😁
