Every other week, I send an email that solely features great links for you to peruse throughout the week and weekend. Enjoy!
“The Rot of Candy Crush” — Like a good percentage of the rest of the internet world, I’ve become obsessed with my daily game of Wordle. Anne Helen Petersen (featured here in Read More Books) writes about its appeal in this great piece comparing Wordle to Candy Crush. (Also, Wordle was bought by the New York Times yesterday…woah!)
“Baseball Hall of Fame finally signs its own death certificate” — Drew Magary is one of the smartest writers in sports. This take about Barry Bonds and the Baseball Hall of Fame is superb. There are a lot of hot takes on this topic. Ultimately, I agree with Magary: it’s absurd that the sport’s home run leader is not in its most important museum.
Trevor Noah Roasts Joe Rogan — When two of the dumber brains on the internet get together, Trevor Noah is around to burn them to shreds. See below.
My French Press Secret Weapon — I have some fellow coffee nerds at my new job and it’s been fun to recount my own routine and favorite tools. One of those is definitely my trusty temperature-controlled hot water kettle. Boiling water can scald your coffee; somewhere 190-200 degrees is actually better for your beans. Grab this fancy kettle to help your cause.
“The Case Against the Trauma Plot” — Trauma is everywhere in pop culture right now. As a society, it seems like we’re coming to grips with this emotion for the first time in our national history, so it certainly makes some sense. But should it be everywhere? Is everything tinged with trauma, or does our vocabulary fall woefully short of accurately describing how we’re feeling? Fascinating piece here.
“Top 100 Science Fiction & Fantasy Novels” — I’m still in recovery from my years-long project of reading a biography of every president. Part of that recovery means bingeing on fiction, especially in the escapist sci-fi and fantasy genres. This list from NPR was particularly fun to read through.
Thanks so much for reading and subscribing! I sure appreciate the time and inbox space.

That New Yorker article sucked me right in and didn’t let go! Fascinating, although I hate it for calling out Ted Lasso…don’t mess with my favorite show!
