These Are a Few of My Favorite Links: 06/21/22
Every other week, I send an email that solely features great links for you to peruse throughout the week and weekend. Enjoy!
“When Baking and Real Estate Collide” — Tartine Bakery. Big Tech. Startups. And Anna Wiener writing it. It’s like the internet found the algorithm for Stories That Interest Jeremy and spit this one out. Perfect.
“The C-Suite Skills That Matter Most” — Honestly, I’m not generally interested in articles about executive skills. They usually bore me. But this one was captivating. More than any hard skills, the skills that matter as a leader are social skills. Being able to empathize, motivate, and listen are increasingly important in the workspace.
“The gender gap in reading: Boy meets book, boy loses book, boy never gets book back” — There has long been a gender gap in reading skills and habits. Unfortunately, it’s not getting any better. This is eye-opening research and definitely guides some of my thinking in what I hope to do with Read More Books.
“The Weirdly Specific Trend That Has Taken Over Women’s Fiction” — The “Protagonist Does a Thing” formula in book titles is all over the place: Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine, Evvie Drake Starts Over, Tracy Flick Can’t Win, Lucie Yi Is Not a Romantic, Finlay Donovan Knocks ’Em Dead, Carrie Soto Is Back . . . what’s the deal?
“I Accidentally Became a Meme: Blinking White Guy” — This isn’t a new video series, but it is a really fun and inventive one. The stories behind the memes are, without fail, more interesting than you’d expect.
“How the Amish Use Technology” — Turns out, technology doesn’t have to be the harbinger of the apocalypse. This profile on how the Amish community uses technology is a perfect example of how emerging tech can still be used to help people and foster togetherness.
Thanks for reading — I so appreciate the time and inbox space.
