These Are a Few of My Favorite Links: 01/04/22
Every other week, I send an email that solely features great links for you to peruse throughout the week and weekend. Enjoy!
“The Return of the Urban Firestorm” — Though our town emerged unscathed from last week’s horrendous fire, two suburbs directly north of us were nearly obliterated from the map. Until recent years, urban firestorms (think Great Chicago Fire) were a thing of the distant past. With the effects of climate change, we can expect more of them in the years to come.
“It’s Time to Embrace Slow Productivity” — Preach! The title of this one says all you need to know to click through and read it. Plus, I can never resist Cal Newport.
Queer Eye — One of my favorite shows is finally back on Netflix for its sixth season. Nearly every episode makes me tear up (I’m a softie) and the message at its core is one that needs spreading far and wide: everybody—and every body—deserves love, dignity, and acceptance.
“Beware That Nocebo Strapped to Your Wrist” — Wearable tech, including the proliferation of fitness trackers, caught on with the general public incredibly fast after an initial couple years of ridicule. Are they as effective as we think they are, though?
The Always Sunny Podcast (Spotify link) — My favorite show is now a podcast. The show’s three creators (Charlie, Rob, and Glenn) re-watch every episode and then talk about it. Makes me laugh out loud on my daily walks around the neighborhood, which probably makes me seem like a lunatic. Worth it.
My Favorite Walking Shoes — I couple years ago I went to a real running shoe store (and not just Walmart) to get a real running shoe. I landed on these Hokas, which have now accumulated hundreds of miles of running and walking. Love ‘em so much that this week I ordered the same shoes to replace the now-worn original pair. No need to fix what ain’t broke.
Thanks for the time and inbox space. Have a great rest of your week!
