These Are a Few of My Favorite Links: 07/23/22
Every other week, I send an email that solely features great links for you to peruse throughout the week and weekend. Enjoy!
“How do strong muscles keep your brain healthy?” — I always really enjoy Bonnie Tsui’s writing, and this short piece about the connection between your brain and your muscles might be one of the most motivating.
“I Woke Up with Cold Urticaria” — People develop sensitivities to just about everything these days, but can you really be allergic to frigid temperatures? This Outside writer found out the hard way.
“TikTok and the Fall of the Social-Media Giants” — Cal Newport’s articles for the New Yorker are can’t miss, in my humble opinion. His commentary about social media rises above the trends of the day to detect larger tide changes.
My New Favorite Word Game — I don’t do Wordle as much anymore, but I play Knotwords every day. It’s a little like Scrabble, but with no clues. You fill in the randomized letters to make words, with puzzles getting harder as the week goes on.
“Mommies Who Mushroom” — With psychedelic mushrooms on the ballot in Colorado this fall, this article caught my attention. To be clear, it’s about microdosing, in which a drug is delivered in such a small amount that the user doesn’t get high. The real lesson, in many ways, is about how hard modern parenthood can be.
“What Comes After Ambition?” — This piece is aimed at women, but applies way more broadly. One particularly memorable quote:
“Am I doing something that brings satisfaction? Do I feel like I’m learning? Do I feel like I’m contributing? Do I feel like I’m connecting to other people? Do I feel like I have flexibility in this new way we live and work? Am I given not only responsibility but autonomy? Am I in a place that aligns with my values? The things that I am looking for have changed.”
Thanks so much for reading. I appreciate the time and inbox space.
