Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television by Jerry Mander has been on my get to list for awhile. But then, I'd probably be convinced that I need to throw what Harlan Ellison has called The Glass Teat into the trash once and for all.

Postman is always worth a read.

My partner and I have an eight-hour drive coming up for Thanksgiving. Sounds like Seinfeldia could be a good candidate for joint audio book listening on the trip! Thanks as always for the interesting recommendations.

I can't "watch it," as in sit through an entire episode, but The Masked Singer is a guilty pleasure of my wife's and mine. The goofiness of the judges and the ludicrous hook of who is under the mask make for surprisingly good entertainment. I don't know 90%+ of the singers and a rarely enjoy the songs all that much, but the show somehow works in bite sizes or as background.

Good to know, we've never tried that one!

It’s kinda fun to have a guilty pleasure and I’m trying to take the guilty out of it. We recently started watching The Floor and it’s an interesting exercise in basic trivia under pressure. Masked singer has always tempted me.

My wife's and my favorite non-guilty pleasure was the pre-Covid So You Think You Can Dance. Great show with amazing dancers and choreography, but it lost its way as a good competition show when it came back in 2023.

I love TV. I think the stories and complexity of characters in serialised television has improved a lot since the 80s. I’m curious if that guy would revisit his position now that we have Ted Lasso.

This is true. If you ignore most sitcoms, plots and characters are more complex than "the good ol' days." I think most American sitcoms suck - smae jokes, same characters, same plots. Unless they're ripping off an English show, then they tend to be watchable. I'm thinking specifically of "Ghosts." the American version is actually better than the English original. Maybe not it's so coincidental that Ted Lasso is set in England.
