Just chiming in to say that i just read Adventures of Huckleberry Fin last week. I think that you get something new out of it every time you read it.

Nice! I read it again in 5 or 10 years and see what I take from it. :)

The Late Show cancellation is truly wild to me; I was shocked when I saw that headline this evening. I may not have had much time for Colbert's version of it (I always loved Letterman's version, which really shaped my sense of humor as a teenager), but Colbert himself is such an earnestly faithful, thoughtful, reflective person; he's about as good a human being as you could put into a role like that. I suppose this might really be the harbinger of death for the late night talk show as we've known it. I try to aggressively question any feeling I get that verges on conspiratorial, but the political overtones with Paramount are kind of glaring too...

Miss you guys!

I definitely agree that there's something conspiratorial about it. Especially given that he was regularly atop ratings and that late night ratings in general tend to get a boost with GOP administrations. It's very weird.

Miss you too, friend!

Huckleberry Finn is a book full of so many great moments but I don't think it's a truly great book. I wish he'd had an editor, but after reading Ron Chernow's biography (which I agree is not a book I'd recommend to too many readers), I see that his writing was not truly edited at all, it was only proofread for anything that would give offense (at the time). If you have the patience to wait through the slow and awkward stitching together of his two stories, you'll enjoy many parts of Huck Finn immensely.

If the book was like 500 pages, I'd probably agree. :) Its relative brevity and overall readability helps a lot.

Yes to Huck Finn, but not the Mark Twain book!

There's also a graphic novel - Big Jim and the White Boy- which is another Huck Finn take, which is excellent.

My non-fiction reading has been a bit light recently so will definitely look out for you recommendation of Fire Weather, particularly as here is UK we have just had out 3rd heatwave this year! I’m not a Kayaker, but stand up paddling boarding might be worth a look as tried this last year and it was great.

I don't mind the idea of paddle boarding, but I do prefer sitting haha.
