I’ve only read nonfiction so far this year, but I thoroughly enjoyed Yulia Ustinova’s Divine Mania: Alterations of Consciousness in Ancient Greece. It delves into a lot of the questions left open by Dodds’ The Greeks and the Irrational. Fascinating if you have an interest in a more nuanced understanding of ancient ideas surrounding consciousness and religion and how they intertwine.
Also read The warmth of other suns. I was struck by the huge efforts to escape Jim Crow south, only to find the subtle racism on the north.
Reading Hamilton by Ron Chernow. It amazes me how the same ideas that Hamilton fought against are still being fought today.
Such a good book. I'm thinking about reading it again.
My favorite read of the year has been How Long ‘Til Black Future Month? a collection of stories by NK Jemisin
I've read very little Jemisin, but I'd love to read more. Thanks for the rec!
