The Stand is one of those books (and the movie) that you go to bed thinking about and then wake up thinking about a lot. Between it and Lucifer's Hammer, they pretty much cover all a person needs to read in apocalyptic horror/fiction.... Rebecca is on my classics list for next year, looking forward to diving in after another great recommendation!
The Dead Zone was also a decent early 2000's TV series starring Anthony Michael Hall. IT ran for 5 or 6 seasons I think.
