What was the best book you read in May?
Plus the Anderberg family's favorites
Hey there, readers!
Once again, it’s time to chat about our favorite reads of the previous month. Here’s what our family most enjoyed in May:
Jeremy: The crazy-busy end of the school year meant less reading this month than usual, but the two books highlighted here are both likely to end up in my year-end favorites. Challenger by Adam Higginbotham is as good as narrative history gets; Kurt Vonnegut’s Player Piano is perhaps the most relevant 70-year-old book I’ve read.
Jane: May was filled with mediocre books for Jane, but as our kids get older and fully into school culture, she’s been thinking about re-reading Bruce Holsinger’s The Gifted School. We both read it years ago and it’s really stuck with us. Its portrayal of school parents gets more real with each passing year of school.
Graham (nearly 9 years old): Our oldest grabbed Charlie Thorne and the Royal Society from our local library on a whim and he really enjoyed it. Next up for him are the rest of the books in the series.
Willa (6 years old): Butt or Face? was a hit this spring. It’s eye-rolling and ridiculous and very fun.
Bo (3 years old): Though our copy is a little beat up these days, The Color Monster Pop-Up is still a delightful book and is teaching our littlest a bit about recognizing emotions. Makes for a great gift.
Alright — your turn! What was your favorite May read?
A Gentleman in Moscow!
I read Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott for the first time and it was phenomenal. I also really enjoyed All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy.
