What was the best book you read in February?
Plus the Anderberg family's favorites
Hey there, readers!
Time again to chat about our favorite reads of the previous month. I’ve come to really enjoy these monthly discussions, and I hope you have too! Here’s what our family most enjoyed in February:
Jeremy: I really enjoyed being immersed in Ray Carney’s corrupt Harlem in Colson Whitehead’s Harlem Shuffle. He has a good case for being America’s greatest living author. For non-fiction, American Prometheus was as good as advertised, and then some.
Jane: Though she enjoyed the first half better the second, Jane quite liked One in a Millenial for its nostalgic tour of the ‘90s.
Graham (8.5 years old): The oldest kiddo has been binge-reading all things Rick Riodan. The graphic version of The Red Pyramid especially caught his attention in February.
Willa (6 years old): We’re back into the “Who Would Win?” series with Willa. Her latest find was Tarantula vs. Scorpion. Has an unexpected ending, I tell ya what.
Bo (3 years old): The toddler has discovered his sibings’ old copy of Pete the Cat: The Wheels on the Bus. It’s unpleasant to read/sing through, but we do it every night nonetheless. 😄
Alright — your turn! What was your favorite February read?
I was in a horrible reading slump — a string of only-OK books in a row :-( — and then I listened to the audiobook of Piglet by Lottie Hazell. I loved it so much! It's the story of a British cookbook editor with a picture-perfect fiancé. They're just 12 days out from their wedding when he confesses a terrible betrayal. The rest of the story is the countdown to the wedding and how the heroine Piglet deals with (and doesn't) her feelings. It's filled with vivid food descriptions, and is a deep exploration of female friendship, family, and how we manage (or don't) our desires. It's blackly funny and smart and has some fantastic set pieces that are equal parts heartbreaking and hilarious. It's like Nora Ephron plus Jane Austen plus Fleabag — which will give you a good idea if it's for you or not.
Without a doubt, The Covenant of Water. Wonderful saga, writing , plot, and characters..... all have stuck with me even today.
