Having just finished reading Lonesome Dove with the Dying Breed book club, this story seems a natural follow up. Thanks Jeremy.

In case you want a more indepth view on one of the principals involved, on your Pulitzer list, is T J Stiles’s Custer’s Trials: A Life on the Frontier of a New America. It won the Pulitzer for History, but really more a biography of the complex individual of Custer.

I actually immediately bought that one after finishing A Terrible Glory. After a couple WWII reads, it’s next up!

Great timing for this article! My family will be riding through this part of Montana next week and I have convinced them that we MUST go see the battle site. It may open up some uncomfortable questions from the 4-9 year olds, but hey that's history!

Yes, do it! I’ve been through the Black Hills in South Dakota, but never up into Montana. I’d love to get there someday.

Thank you for this review! I loved Hampton Sides’ book Blood and Thunder, but Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee still sits on my shelf looking big and complicated. This new book seems like a perfect segue. I, too, love stories about the American West and am excited to read this one.

I have yet to read the Hampton Sides book, but I love his work in general. So I’ll definitely get to it sometime!
