I've been a pastor for over 30 years, and have come to know a lot of people in the funeral service industry. I've also attended cremations, and spent time in the back- the "prep room" of funeral homes. It does tend to keep me grounded, and aware of mortality. It's also afforded me the opportunity to meet some great people, who do their work with respect, and compassion. I think Smoke Gets In Your Eyes could be a great read.
The “smoke gets in your eyes” title has me scratching my head. Is the title morbid the way I’m thinking about it or not at all?
Oh yeah it's definitely morbid — like, smoke from the bodies.
I loved Caitlin’s book! Check out Mary Roach’s “Stiff” next!
Just added both to my to read list!

I have had The Marriage Portrait on my TBR for a while! Taking this as a sign to start it soon :)
